Blade Runner 2099 is no longer hiding its biggest change to the franchise: humans have lost control of Los Angeles. Prime Video released the full trailer at New York Comic Con on October 10, revealing a future in which Replicants have moved from hunted creations to the city's ruling power. All eight episodes of the limited series will arrive together on November 25, 2026.
The new hierarchy turns the familiar Blade Runner pursuit inside out without abandoning it. Hunter Schafer plays Cora, a human fugitive who assumes one final identity as a Blade Runner. Michelle Yeoh plays Olwen, a Replicant Blade Runner with only days left to live. The official synopsis forces them into the same investigation: they must find a runaway carrying a secret capable of bringing down their fragile city.
The old mortality question now applies to an entire species
The series takes place 50 years after Blade Runner 2049, placing it 80 years beyond the original film's 2019 setting. At the NYCC panel, creator and showrunner Silka Luisa said the Replicant uprising that had been building across the films is over and humanity lost. Her distinction is more revealing than a timeline update: the first film followed Replicants fighting for more life, while this story asks what humanity does when its own time may be ending.
That makes Cora and Olwen more than a mismatched detective pair. Cora survives by taking the identity of an enforcer in a system that has displaced humans; Olwen belongs to the dominant species but is approaching her own expiration. Their positions let the series examine political replacement and personal mortality at the same time. The trailer establishes that tension, but it does not reveal the runaway's identity or the secret threatening Los Angeles.
Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer lead an ensemble with few disclosed roles
Prime Video lists Yeoh, Schafer, Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben as series regulars. Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke and Maurizio Lombardi recur, although the current official cast announcement does not assign those actors character names. Ars Technica additionally identifies Hugo Hamlet as Buster Friendly.
The announced cast does not include Harrison Ford or Ryan Gosling, and the trailer does not confirm a return by either actor. That is an omission, not proof that a cameo cannot happen. The material Prime Video is selling now is a new story led by Cora and Olwen rather than a reunion built around Deckard or K.
All eight episodes release together on November 25
Blade Runner 2099 premieres exclusively on Prime Video on November 25, 2026, in more than 240 countries and territories. Amazon says all eight episodes will be available on the same day, so this is a full-season release rather than a weekly rollout. The announcement does not provide an Israel-specific launch time or localized language list, so neither detail should be assumed from the global availability claim.
Luisa created the series and serves as showrunner and executive producer. Ridley Scott is among the executive producers, while Jonathan van Tulleken directs the first two episodes and also executive produces. Those credits connect the series to the original film while placing its opening chapters with the director of Shōgun's first two episodes. The next firm milestone is therefore the November 25 complete-season drop, when the trailer's power reversal has to sustain an eight-episode mystery rather than a two-minute preview.
