Disney is running limited AI search tests on ESPN and Disney+, letting selected users ask sports questions or describe an immediate viewing mood through text, voice and prompts.

ESPN and Disney+ are testing separate AI products

Disney is testing two AI-assisted discovery products rather than launching one universal search system. ESPN Search is in beta with a subset of users, while a separate Disney+ experiment reaches a small group of selected subscribers. The company has not announced a broad rollout date or complete country list.

ESPN Search combines newsroom and sports data

At ESPN, users can ask sports questions in natural language and receive answers, related content, statistics and recommendations. Disney says the system draws from published ESPN articles and videos, ESPN Research data, sports metadata, internal knowledge repositories and structured sports data. The announcement does not detail ranking or citation behavior.

Disney+ uses mood, voice and text prompts

The Disney+ test focuses on immediate intent instead of only past viewing. Selected subscribers can describe what they want through natural-language text, voice or suggested prompts, including a mood that differs from their normal habits. The service then recommends titles intended to fit that moment.

Sports answers and mood recommendations carry different risks

The distinction matters because search answers and entertainment recommendations carry different accuracy risks. A sports response may present a checkable fact; a mood recommendation is subjective. Disney says feedback will inform navigation, results, recommendations and discovery, but it has not published accuracy metrics, privacy specifics or an external evaluation.

Neither beta has a broad rollout date

Both products remain limited betas. A screenshot or access report from one account does not prove general availability, and features can change before release. The confirmed development is controlled user testing across two services; claims that Disney has replaced its existing search or personalization systems would overstate the announcement.
