Apple TV announced on July 23, 2026 that The Morning Show will return for a fifth and final season in 2027. The drama, starring and executive produced by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, was one of the flagship originals that launched Apple's streaming service in 2019, making its ending a bookend for the platform's first era as much as for the series.

The ending was planned, not imposed

The most substantive detail in the announcement is that the writers knew. Aniston says the team went in aware this would be the last season and was able to craft the conclusion with intentionality rather than assembling a finale after a cancellation. That distinction matters for anyone deciding whether to keep watching: a planned ending is a different proposition from a series stopped mid-arc.

Witherspoon described nine years producing and acting on the show, framing it as a series about why newsrooms matter — freedom of the press and the journalists who protect the fourth estate — rather than simply a drama set in one.

Who is making the final season

Charlotte Stoudt showruns and executive produces. Mimi Leder executive produces and also directs. The series comes from television studio Media Res and is produced by Echo Films and Hello Sunshine, with Michael Ellenberg executive producing for Media Res, Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine and Kristin Hahn for Echo Films. That is the same creative leadership the series has carried, so the final run is not a handover to a new team.

What Apple said about it

Zack Van Amburg, Apple's head of worldwide video, noted that the series was the company's first order and credited it with helping launch the platform. Jamie Erlicht, who shares that role, pointed to continuing work with the same creative partners, indicating the relationships outlast the show itself. The series has won Emmy, Screen Actors Guild and Critics Choice awards across its run.

What has not been announced

Apple has given a year but not a premiere date, an episode count, or a release pattern for the final season. The returning cast beyond Aniston and Witherspoon is not listed, and no plot detail is provided. The critical descriptions in the announcement are drawn from press quotes selected by Apple, not an independent assessment, and NexusGG has not seen the season.
