Paul Bettany returns as Vision and James Spader as Ultron in a series Marvel says completes the arc begun by WandaVision and continued in Agatha All Along. It premieres 14 October 2026.

Marvel Television's VisionQuest premieres exclusively on Disney+ on 14 October 2026. Paul Bettany and James Spader unveiled the first trailer at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on 14 August, joined on stage by Marvel Studios president and executive producer Kevin Feige.

It is billed as the end of a trilogy, not a spin-off

Marvel frames the series as the conclusion of an arc that began with WandaVision in 2021 and continued with Agatha All Along in 2024. That is a firmer claim than Marvel usually makes about its Disney+ output, and it sets an expectation of resolution rather than another thread left open for a film.

It also makes Agatha All Along load-bearing rather than optional. A viewer who skipped the 2024 series is being told, in effect, that they watched two-thirds of something — a notable position for Marvel to take about a show that was itself a spin-off.

Vision is in hiding with a bounty on him

By Marvel's synopsis, Vision has been rebooted and has escaped those who wanted to weaponise him. Searching for meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his own programming — F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S. and Ultron among them. A bounty ends the quiet, putting him on the run alongside Thomas Shepard, described as a mysterious boy who may be Vision's son, reincarnate.

Placing Ultron inside Vision's head as a consultant rather than an external villain is the structural idea here. Spader's return is not a resurrection so much as a voice Vision cannot switch off.

What the cast said on stage

Bettany described the character's throughline before turning to the show's question: "It's been an enormous joy playing the Vision as he's evolved over the years. He's been an Avenger, a father, a partner to Wanda." Spader's contribution was drier — "Everyone knows that Ultron has long been fascinated by humanity" — to which Bettany replied that he recalled Ultron being "most interested in wiping them out."

Disney's own showcase listing adds Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick and T'Nia Miller to the cast. The premiere date puts the series two months ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, which holds 18 December 2026.

Marvel has not published an episode count or a release cadence for the series, and neither appeared in the D23 presentation. Both are worth confirming before assuming a weekly run.
