Wild Sing Reunites a Disgraced 2000s K-pop Trio Twenty Years On

Wild Sing, a retro K-pop comedy starring Gang Dong-won, arrived on Netflix on July 31 KST and July 30 PT. It follows Triangle, a co-ed trio who ruled the early-2000s charts before a scandal, reuniting two decades later.

Wild Sing reached Netflix worldwide on July 31 KST, which is July 30 PT — a distinction worth keeping, since the two dates describe the same release from opposite sides of the date line. The comedy film stars Gang Dong-won and is directed by Son Jae-gon, whose previous work includes My Scary Girl and Secret Zoo.

The setup: a scandal, then twenty years of silence

The film follows Triangle, a three-member co-ed dance group that topped the charts in the early 2000s before an overnight scandal ended their run. Two decades later, an offer to reunite and perform pulls leader Hyun-woo, played by Gang Dong-won, out of obscurity as a survival broadcaster and back toward the bandmates he lost.

Those bandmates have not fared better. Rapper Sang-gu, played by Um Tae-goo, is buried in debt after a failed solo attempt. Do-mi, the group's centre, played by Park Ji-hyun, left performance altogether for life as the daughter-in-law of a chaebol family, one of Korea's family-run business dynasties. Oh Jung-se plays Choi Seong-gon, Triangle's old rival, billed as the Ballad Prince.

The music was built by working K-pop producers

The detail that separates this from a generic showbiz comedy is that Triangle's fictional discography was made by people who write real K-pop. JYP Entertainment collaborators Shim Eun-ji, whose credits include TWICE, SHINee, IU and ITZY, and KASS, who has worked with NMIXX, GOT7 and ITZY, shaped the group's songs. Choreography comes from Yang Wook of Nana Company, who coached the variety project SSAK3.

The costume work tracks the same idea across two eras: bright, boxy uniforms for the debut album, giving way to a colder, metallic Y2K look for the group's second act. A retro-style music video for Triangle's debut single, Love is, passed 2.8 million views on YouTube before the film arrived — an unusual amount of traction for a fictional band's back catalogue.

Language availability

Netflix released the film with subtitles in 32 languages and dubbing in 15, which is a wide localisation footprint for a Korean comedy and suggests the service is positioning it beyond its domestic audience.

What the announcement does not cover

Netflix has not published a runtime or certificate, and the anticipation described around the film's Korean release is the company's own framing rather than a measured figure. Viewing performance after release is not addressed. NexusGG has not watched Wild Sing, so nothing here speaks to whether the comedy lands.
