1047 Games is switching off its servers and walking away from live-service shooters

1047 Games is ending active development on Splitgate: Arena Reloaded and Empulse. On September 3 both games lose dedicated servers and matchmaking, and shift to peer-to-peer hosting with a server browser. Neither game is being shut down — they stay playable, on infrastructure players host themselves.

Empulse, a 6v6 movement shooter pitched as a spiritual successor to Titanfall, entered early access in June. It is losing its servers about ten weeks later, and gets one final new map and a price cut across all regions as its parting update.

From September 3, 2026: dedicated servers and matchmaking end for both games; peer-to-peer hosting and a server browser replace them.

The studio says the maths stopped working

In a post on X, 1047 said neither game earns enough to cover the cost of dedicated servers, that it had kept paying to give both a chance to grow, and that doing so was "no longer sustainable".

It has run this play before. The original Splitgate moved to peer-to-peer last year when its dedicated servers went dark, and remains playable today, including on console. That precedent is the strongest argument that this is a wind-down rather than a death notice — but peer-to-peer changes the game, not just the bill. Host advantage, region matching and cheat handling all get worse without authoritative servers, and a competitive arena shooter feels those losses more acutely than most genres.

Ten years, and a rough eighteen months

Founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian said more than 25 million people have played the studio's games across a decade. "After ten years of focusing on live service shooters, our focus is changing," they wrote. "What we build next may look very different from what people expect from 1047 Games."

The run-up was public and difficult. Splitgate 2 launched in June 2025 into a row over a "Make FPS Great Again" hat and a $145 cosmetic bundle. Layoffs followed within a month; a month after that the game was pushed back to beta and a second round of cuts followed. Empulse's early access in June 2026 was followed by more layoffs within weeks, most recently in July.

The question the statement does not answer

Nothing in the announcement addresses staffing. Given how consistently the studio's previous product decisions arrived alongside job cuts, that omission is the part worth watching — ending development on both live titles at once implies a team reshaped around whatever comes next, and 1047 has not said how many people are still on it.
