Metroid Ravenous launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027, and its central survival mechanic changes what follows a successful counter. After Samus is ambushed and stranded beneath an unfamiliar moon, she can stun enemies and use newly awakened Metroid powers to devour them and recover energy.
Healing is tied to an aggressive counter window
Nintendo’s description links survival to a two-step action: deflect an attack to stagger the target, then drain it before the opening closes. That turns health recovery into a reason to stay near danger. The reveal does not yet say whether every enemy can be consumed or how much energy each target restores, so those balance details remain unconfirmed.
The wider game remains a 2D action adventure built around labyrinthine ruins, new abilities and a route back to the surface. Five Space Ninjas who attacked Samus wait as recurring one-on-one opponents. Nintendo UK says those duels shift the camera behind Samus, creating a different spatial problem from the side-on exploration around them.
The Special Edition includes one amiibo, not the entire launch line
The physical Special Edition includes the game, a SteelBook case and the Samus (Metroid Suit) amiibo. Standard Samus and Chozo Statue figures are separate products scheduled for the same day. Nintendo confirms amiibo support but has not announced what any of the figures unlock, so their gameplay value should not be assumed from the bundle price or character choice.
