Metro 2039 will launch on February 4, 2027, with some Asian, Australian and New Zealand territories receiving it on February 5. 4A Games used the State of Play announcement to show the first console gameplay, captured on PlayStation 5 Pro, and to confirm that both PS5 models will support a 60FPS Performance Mode with ray tracing.
The new lead leaves the tunnels for a thawing Moscow
The campaign follows a former Spartan known as the Stranger after he returns to the Metro and reaches the surface ruins of Moscow. The demonstrated mission sends him toward a Novoreich fortress inside a dam, through radiation, unstable buildings and occupied interiors. 4A describes Metro 2039 as a solo, story-driven first-person shooter rather than a multiplayer or extraction project.
Players will still manage radiation and equipment, while choosing between quieter and more direct approaches. The footage includes a charged Shatun rifle, Molotovs and a Duplet shotgun, but a publisher-selected demonstration cannot establish final enemy behavior, difficulty or performance across the full game.
The 60FPS promise applies to both PS5 consoles
4A Games says Metro 2039 runs on its proprietary 4A Engine and will offer ray tracing at 60 frames per second through a dedicated Performance Mode on PS5 and PS5 Pro. That wording is important because the reveal footage itself was captured only on the Pro model; the studio separately extends the mode commitment to the base PS5.
The announcement does not state the rendering resolution, ray-tracing feature set or visual differences between the two consoles. It also does not promise that every scene remains locked to 60FPS. Those questions require technical analysis of a release build rather than conclusions drawn from an edited trailer.
Metro 2039 is available to wishlist on PlayStation Store now. The announcement page names PlayStation 5 and describes regional date differences, while the wider release also includes Xbox Series X|S and PC according to the game's announced platform list. Pricing and editions remain unannounced, and no physical edition has been detailed.
