Disney's live-action Moana began streaming on Disney+ on October 21. The service's title page now lists the 2026 film as available to watch, giving subscribers a streaming option after its July theatrical run. Disney's opened materials do not confirm an Israel-specific launch time, dubbing or subtitle lineup, so those details should be checked in the local app.
The PG-rated film runs 1 hour 57 minutes. Catherine Lagaʻaia plays Moana, while Dwayne Johnson moves from voicing Maui in the animated films to playing the demigod on screen. Thomas Kail directs from a screenplay by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller.
The remake retells the 2016 voyage instead of extending it
This is not Moana 3. The live-action film returns to Moana's first journey beyond Motunui's reef with Maui to restore prosperity to her island. Disney's release material says it brings back the original characters and signature songs while adding a new number, “Along The Way.”
The music credits underline how closely the remake stays connected to the animated film. Disney+ names Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foaʻi and Mark Mancina as the writers of its original songs, while the press release singles out “Along The Way” as the addition. It is a new song inside a deliberately familiar score, not a replacement soundtrack.
Disney+ now carries three different Moana viewing options
The streaming catalogue now places the remake beside the 2016 animated Moana and the 2024 animated sequel Moana 2. The distinction matters for viewing order: the original and Moana 2 form the animated storyline, while the 2026 film starts that first adventure again with a new cast and live-action presentation.
Streaming lets subscribers compare the remake with the original
The move to subscription streaming may be most useful to families deciding between the two versions. Associated Press critic Jake Coyle found the remake closely repeated the original with only small additions and preferred the animated film's inventiveness. That is a critical judgment, not a change to what Disney is offering: subscribers can now compare the versions without buying or renting the remake separately.
The Disney+ arrival also gives the film a second audience after a softer-than-expected theatrical opening. AP reported studio estimates of $43 million in the United States and Canada and $95 million worldwide for its first weekend. For viewers interested only in the next chapter, Moana 2 remains the sequel; the new streaming arrival is an alternate version of where the voyage began.
