Eddie is now expanding the empire he once inherited by accident
Season 1 turned Eddie from a reluctant duke into someone who understood the leverage hidden beneath his title. The new season starts after that transformation. Lead writer Matthew Read says the central test is Eddie's attempt to expand the criminal empire while working under Bobby Glass, whose decisions appear increasingly unsound.
That creates a different conflict from the first season. Eddie is not learning the rules this time; he is acting on ambition and deciding whether loyalty to Bobby is still compatible with growth. Susie remains his operating partner, which puts their alliance under pressure when the person above them becomes the risk they may need to manage.
Italy widens the operation without replacing the British core
The expansion moves from the cannabis farm beneath Halstead to Italian villas and a new foothold abroad. Theo James returns as Eddie, Kaya Scodelario as Susie and Ray Winstone as Bobby. Giancarlo Esposito, Vinnie Jones, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Jasmine Blackborow, Michael Vu, Harry Goodwins, Ruby Sear and Pearce Quigley also return.
The new cast includes Hugh Bonneville, Benjamin Clementine, Benedetta Porcaroli, Michele Morrone, Sergio Castellitto, Amra Mallassi, Tyler Conti, boxer Chris Eubank Jr and broadcaster Maya Jama. Netflix's announcement confirms the names and Italy setting, but it does not establish which new character will survive the season or how their loyalties resolve.
Season 3 is confirmed, but its story and date are not
Netflix renewed The Gentlemen before Season 2 reached viewers, with Guy Ritchie returning to direct. The company has not announced a Season 3 premiere date, production start or plot. The renewal confirms that the series continues; it should not be read as proof that Season 2 ends without consequences or that every current character returns.
Season 2 premieres exclusively on Netflix on September 3.
