Xbox will publish PHYSINT, expanding its work with Kojima Productions beyond OD. The September 9 announcement keeps Hideo Kojima’s action-espionage project moving under a new publishing partnership, with film and television collaboration also included.
The shift follows Sony’s withdrawal. PC Gamer reproduces Kojima’s account that PlayStation Studios notified him in mid-June that it would cancel the project, prompting a three-month search for another partner. The same report carries Sony’s statement that it had chosen to step away from the collaboration. Those are the parties’ descriptions of the split; they do not establish a shared explanation for why it happened.
For players, the concrete change is who will help bring PHYSINT to market. Xbox’s announcement supplies no launch date or complete platform list, so the publisher change alone is not a sound basis for buying hardware. The agreement also covers stories beyond games, but names no specific film or television production.
That makes this a development-continuity story first: PHYSINT continues, and Xbox’s relationship with the independent studio now spans more than a single game. It does not turn the project into a near-term release.
