MapleStory Classic World works with PlayStation controllers without extra software. Nexon lists DualSense and DualShock as officially supported, alongside Xbox controllers, and both connect over a USB cable or Bluetooth. The step most players miss is inside the game: the Enable Controller Support option in Game Options is off by default, and until you switch it on the client ignores the pad even when Windows or macOS already sees it.
Classic World launched globally on October 21 on Windows and macOS through the Nexon Launcher and Steam. This guide covers both computers and both PlayStation pads; other gamepads may work, but Nexon says it does not officially support them. The steps were checked against Nexon's launch notes and FAQ on October 22, 2026.
Connect the DualSense or DualShock 4 to your computer
A cable is the simplest route. The DualSense uses USB-C, and Sony says a DualShock 4 connects to a PC with a compatible micro-USB cable or its USB wireless adaptor. For Bluetooth, Sony's pairing steps are the same for both pads apart from one button:
- Turn the controller off: if its player light is on, hold the PS button until it goes dark, and unplug any USB cable.
- Put it in pairing mode: hold Create (DualSense) or Share (DualShock 4), then hold the PS button with it until the light bar starts blinking.
- On Windows, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices and add a Bluetooth device; on a Mac, open System Settings > Bluetooth. Select the controller from the list.
- Wait for the light bar to blink again and the player indicator to light up. The pad is now paired.
Sony's DualShock 4 page lists macOS Catalina as the minimum Mac version. A controller can be paired with only one device at a time, so a pad that was last used on a PS5 or PS4 has to be put back into pairing mode before it shows up on the computer.
Turn on controller support in Classic World
With the pad connected, start the game and open Game Options. Community setup guides built from the test client place the toggle and a Stick Sensitivity slider on a Controller tab. Switch on Enable Controller Support; Nexon's launch notes say the controller will not be recognized without it.
The controller then gets its own key configuration, separate from the keyboard one. According to the same community guides, the default layout puts movement on the left stick and the mouse cursor on the right stick, and quick slots are split into groups on the left side, the D-pad and the right side instead of the keyboard's single row. A D-pad Slots setting chooses between Auto-Switch, Always Standard and Always Cross-Style. Build that layout once, before you start grinding, because your keyboard bindings do not carry over to it.
Keep a keyboard within reach. Logging in, naming a character and typing in chat still need one, and a keyboard is the fastest way to fix a binding mistake.
If the controller still does nothing
- Check the in-game toggle first. A pad that works in other games but not here usually means Enable Controller Support is still off.
- Playing through Steam? Steam Input can sit between a controller and a game and remap or double its buttons. If inputs behave strangely, open MapleStory's Properties in your Steam library and disable Steam Input for that game only.
- Re-pair after using a console. A pad that last connected to a PlayStation will not reconnect to the computer on its own.
- Try a cable. If Bluetooth drops or lags, a wired connection rules out pairing and range problems.
- Third-party pads and adapters are outside Nexon's support list. If one misbehaves, test with a DualSense, DualShock 4 or Xbox controller before assuming a game bug.
