Arc System Works has named Phoenix Cyclops as the first additional character joining MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls under its Year 1 content. Producer Takeshi Yamanaka announced the character on July 23, 2026, recapping the studio's San Diego Comic-Con panel, and confirmed Ray Chase as the voice.
Which Cyclops this is, and why it matters
This is not the standard X-Men leader. Arc System Works draws the design from Cyclops's Phoenix Five incarnation in Avengers vs. X-Men, giving him the Phoenix Force alongside the optic blasts and hand-to-hand ability the character is normally built around. That combination is the whole point of the pick: it folds a cosmic power set onto a fighter whose established kit is precise and close-range.
How any of that translates into a moveset is explicitly still unpublished. Arc System Works says details of how the abilities are incorporated into his gameplay are coming in later updates, so frame data, archetype and matchup strength cannot be inferred from the reveal.
The opening movie and its credits
The panel also covered the game's newly revealed opening, which the studio describes as combining classic fighting-game openings with the energy of early-2000s anime openings. Japanese animation studio Sanzigen produced both the opening and the cinematic sequences in Episode Mode, working in the 2.5D style the studio is known for, with Daisuke Suzuki directing the opening animation.
The theme song pairs two Japanese rock vocalists, Keiko Terada of SHOW-YA and mayu of NEMOPHILA, with lyrics by Kanata Okajima and composition and arrangement by MEG.
A costume crossover that costs nothing
Through a collaboration with Insomniac Games, a Wolverine Battle Reborn Suit arrives in Marvel Tōkon on September 1 and is free to all players rather than tied to an edition. That is separate from the Ultimate Edition's costume inspired by the Advanced Suit 2.0 from Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Arc System Works notes that alternate costumes have historically been limited in its titles and says more are planned.
What the reveal does not settle
Naming a first DLC fighter does not establish the number, cadence or pricing of later Year 1 characters, and no roadmap accompanied the announcement. Players should check the base game and any season entitlement separately before buying. NexusGG has not played the character.
