How Tetramon Duel Master actually works inside TCG Card Shop Simulator

The shop sim's 1.0 headline feature is a playable card game with its own rules. Here is the deck limit, the win condition, and why where you place a card matters more than what it costs.

For most of its life, TCG Card Shop Simulator asked players to sell cards they could never play. Tetramon Duel Master closes that loop. Studio founder Ding Shen Sia has laid out the rules ahead of the game's 1.0 release on 15 September, and the design leans on board position in a way most digital card games do not.

You are draining Tamer Points, not hit points

Both players start on 500 Tamer Points, and the match ends when one side reaches zero. That single number does more work than a life total, because it also drives the comeback system described below. Opening hands are five cards with one mulligan available.

Fifty cards minimum, four copies maximum

Every duel starts from a 50-card deck capped at four copies of any single named card. You draw five, and a bad hand gets exactly one mulligan: the hand slides to the bottom of the deck, you draw a fresh five, and the deck is reshuffled before play begins. The 50-card floor pushes deckbuilding toward redundancy rather than a tight combo — you cannot reliably assemble a four-card engine that deep without duplicates.

The top four cards of the deck are then set face-down into the Guardian Area before the first turn. They stay untouched until your Tamer Points start taking real damage, which makes them a resource you cannot plan around — you do not know what is sitting there.

Four Elemental Areas turn placement into damage

The board's front line is four Elemental Areas — Fire, Earth, Water and Wind — with the deck, discard pile and Guardian Area off to the side. Each turn opens with a draw, then the main phase lets you play a Tetramon into an area, where its Play Effect triggers immediately. Sia's worked example is Burpig, a Rare Fire-type that evolves from Pigni: playing it raises its own Elemental Power by 15 for the turn, on top of its printed Fire, Earth, Water and Wind stats.

Attack Power combines the Tetramon's Elemental Power with the power of the area it occupies, which is why Sia sums the design up as "Placement is Power." The same card is worth different damage depending on where it stands. The attack phase is skipped on the very first turn of a duel — Sia's own aside is that going first already has its perks.

The evolution rule with a real cost attached

Evolution cards can only be stacked directly onto the Tetramon they evolve from, and a freshly played Basic needs a turn to settle before it can evolve at all. After that there is no cap — you can chain several evolutions in one turn if the hand supports it.

The constraint that will decide games is quieter: each Elemental Area accepts only one new Basic Tetramon per turn, and playing one clears out whatever was already sitting there. Dropping a fresh Basic into an occupied area is not reinforcement, it is replacement — so an evolution stack you spent three turns building can be thrown away by your own careless play.

Guardians reward the player who is losing

Crossing 400, 300, 200 or 100 Tamer Points pulls the top Guardian card straight into that player's hand. That is four separate rewards for being behind, and it means an aggressive opening is not the same as a won game: every threshold you push an opponent through arms them. A deck that can close from 400 to zero in one sustained push is worth more than one that simply hits hard early.

Where to play it now

The shop sim is available in Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC and is included with Xbox Game Pass; Xbox says it has drawn more than 3.5 million players since launch. Tetramon Duel Master arrives with the 1.0 update on 15 September 2026, alongside a new wave of Tetramon cards.

Rules as described by the developer for the 1.0 version, as of 23 August 2026. This is a Game Preview title, so treat balance values as current rather than final.
